Peasant Farmers Soil
Rationale
The main rationale of this project is the development of sustainable agricultural production systems for farmers which will support the sustainable management of the biodiversity and agricultural landscapes leading to increased in agricultural production and rural incomes.
The lack of sustainable and appropriate land husbandry management approaches is at the forefront of increasing drop in agricultural production and productivity, cropping of marginal lands and resulting regular occurrences of landslides throughout the western highlands of Cameroon. Judging from the history of landslides in the Lebialem Highlands/Mt Bamboutos area and lack of Government action calls for the need to design appropriate land husbandry management schemes for peasant farmers in this region that will mitigate future landslides and improve agricultural productivity.
This project is a model in Cameroon, as it will lead to the creation of novel community institutions for the sustainable management of the environment and agricultural landscapes.
