Community Education in Besom

Community Education
ERuDeF is involved in a wide range of community-based activities. Community education stands as one of the strategies used to raise awareness on Cross River gorillas. Awareness-building and grassroots conservation programmes are approaches used to ensure comprehensive community-based participation and mobilisation towards sustainable management of natural resources in specific priority sites. Programmes designed are extended to communities through workshops, meetings and training sessions.
So far the 33 communities have been reached with a total population of about 60,000 people who principally depend on forest resources for livelihood sustenance. Through the community education community members are regrouped to facilitate alternative livelihood identification and priorization.
School Education
It is intended to contribute in societal building, by causing the young generation to become conscious and aware of issues related to nature and the environment. The program targets primary, secondary and high school students especially those in schools around the Lebialem-Mone Forest Landscape. Through this students are able to contribute their own quota in conservation, which is continuos awareness as they in turn take the lessons home to their parents and neighbours.
